Alongside the release of America to Me, Participant Media is launching a civic engagement and educational outreach campaign to help viewers understand what inequitable systems and traditions look like and what structural change is. Along with an immersive digital experience (part conversation guide, part toolkit) created for every America to Me episode, Participant will encourage viewers to think about similar examples in their own schools and communities – the statues in the courtyard, the names on the wall, the practice facilities given to different teams, the things kids are disciplined for and not disciplined for, who gets punished – with the end goal being not just conversation, but action.

The campaign will kick off in 10 key cities and roll out nation-wide over the course of 10 weeks, with a goal of sparking thousands of community conversations (“10 | 10 | 1000”) about race, education and racial equity. Each week, in a different city, the campaign will bring together a cross-section of influencers, stakeholders, educators, students, parents and politicians to screen that week’s episode and host a panel discussion that helps drive engagement and a call to action for locally-hosted, candid conversations about race, education and equity.
Participant's 10 cities are ATLANTA (8/24), DETROIT (8/28), NYC (9/06), BOSTON (9/13), LOS ANGELES (9/23),WASHINGTON D.C. (9/26), DALLAS (10/3), CHARLOTTE (10/10), SF / OAKLAND (10/18), CHICAGO (10/25).
In each of the cities Participant is signing up 100+ watch group leaders who will commit to watching all 10 episodes in a small group and using the digital experience, created by an advisory board of experts, to help identify structural inequities in each episode. Using the series as a catalyst, our goal is, through guided conversation and experiments in the digital guide, to help watch groups identify and address inequities in their own schools and communities.

The first 100 watch group leaders to sign up in each city will be given the opportunity to attend a locally led training workshop that will give discussion group leaders structure, frameworks, strategies and language for leading conversations their own homes and communities. Some of the local partners include Dig Deep For Equity, Detroit Equity Lab, Equity Team Inc., The DC Equity Lab, and Integrate NYC.
Ten cities is not enough. Sign up to lead a watch group and help us bring America to Me, the docu-series and the digital guide, to middle schools, high schools, colleges, conferences and communities in all 50 states.
Join us and help seed a national conversation around issues of race, education and equity.
