This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River
Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday,
February 22, 2001.

The Board of Education recognized the outstanding accomplishments
of the students who participated in the All-State Musicians competition
in Peoria; |
Board
Actions |
approved the consent items: minutes of January 18, 24, 25, February
7 and 15, 2001, personnel recommendations; financial reports; and FDSE
actions;
authorized W. F. Gurrie to conduct the audit for the fiscal year 2001;
directed the FY 02 Tentative Budget to be prepared and placed on display
July 23, 2001, and to see that all public notices regarding the Tentative
Budget are published in the Oak Leaves and Wednesday Journal;
approved the sabbatical leaves for the 2001-02 school year as follows:
Karen Bardeen—Science; Peter Kahn—English; Heidi Lynch—History; Jo Anne
Roe—World Languages; Craig Slocum—Mathematics; Mary Socall—English
amended Policy 5117, Tuition and Residential Status of Students, as
presented;
certified thirteen (13) students as mid-year graduates as of January
19, 2001 as presented;
moved the Board of Education’s November 2001 meeting date from Thursday,
November 15, 2001 to Tuesday, November 13, 2001;
expelled student EXP 2/22/01-12 for the remainder of the 2000-01 school
year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion of
enrollment and regular attendance at Beacons Academy for second semester
of the 2000-01 school year; completion of the Oak Park and River Forest
High School’s special education screening process; and ongoing counseling.

Board member Stewart volunteered to review the following textbook for
the Assignment Applied Arts Division–Sports and Entertainment
Marketing. |
| Reports |
Reports Dr. Bridge reported that 1) Dr. Jessica Young, a Golden Apple
finalist, was named as an alternate—an outstanding honor; 2) school personnel
attended the Northwest Personnel Recruitment Fair; 3) the Class of 2005
had an expanded registration process; 4) over 250 community members attended
the National African-American Parents Involvement Dinner (NAAPID) on February
8 to celebrate the successful partnering of parents and schools; 5) the
successful Safe School Drill took place February 15; 6) 12 of the 17 students
who took the Consumer Education Exam in January passed; 7) second semester
parent/teacher conferences will be on March 1 from 5 to 8:00 p.m.; 8) the
second Parent Visitation Day will be March 8; 9) the winter musical “Gypsy”
starts Friday, February 23 and the PTO’s benefit dinner is Saturday, February
24; 10) the Booster Auction date has been changed to April 21 at St. Luke’s
Church; 11) notice of all of the Board’s committee meetings is posted on
the district’s website; and 12) 25 students have been named National Merit
Finalists.
Mrs. Bennett reported on two pilot summer camps 1) Building Blocks:
Careers in Construction and the Trades; and 2) All That Jazz: Careers
in Music, Art, Theatre, and Dance.
Dr. Lebrecht gave an update on the site proposal and announced that
the school had received two summer maintenance grants for the total amount
of $100,000.
Mr. Lanenga reported on the departmental enrollment trends and staff
projections.
