This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday, February 24, 2000.
 
Recognition The Board recognized the following students on their All-State Musician achievements along with their directors Steve Denny, Scotty Jones, and Elaine Hlavach: Raquel Aguirre, Steven Cuculich, Matthew Demas, Phil Doyle, John Harris, Jean McCullough, Ben Pawlowski, Abbie Peters, Katie Schouten, Tyler Teggatz, Melissa Treinkman, Benjamin Weber, and Evan White.
 
Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of January 27 and February 4, 2000; personnel recommendations; financial reports; and FDSE actions; 
  • adopted Policy 5119, Home-Schooled and Nonpublic School Students;
  • approved the textbook Careers for the Special Education Department;
  • authorized W.F. Gurrie to conduct the audit for the fiscal year 2000;
  • directed the FY 2001 Tentative Budget to be prepared and placed on display July 24, 2000, and publish all public notices regarding the Tentative Budget in the Oak Leaves and Wednesday Journal;
  • accepted with gratitude from Lee Pilger of the Jackson National Life Insurance Company donated back issues of Forbes Magazines;
  • approved the Sabbatical Leaves for Linda Tibensky for first and second semester of the 2000-2001 school year and Jeannine DeRose-Ihrig for first semester of the 2000-2001 school year;
  • approved the CPA contract;
  • certified thirty mid-year graduates as of January 21, 2000; and 
  • upheld a three-day suspension of Student SUS 2/4/00-3 and expelled student EXP 2/24/00-27 for the remainder of the 1999/00 school year and summer school and recommended that the student obtain verifiable counseling with proof of such counseling to be provided prior to re-enrollment.

Reports Superintendent’s Report—Superintendent’s Report—Dr. Bridge reported that the following 26 teachers had been nominated for inclusion in the sixth edition of the Who’s Who Among American Teachers 2000: Terry Anderson, Nancy Bardo, Linda Belpedio, William Boulware, Ellen Boyer, Tom Cieplak, Lois Goldstein, Maureen Grady, Daniel Greenstone, Sheila Hardin, Scotty Jones, Peter Kahn, Linda Levine, Bill Lovaas, Lisa Luna, Clyde Lundgren, Heidi Lynch, Lona McIntosh, Sharon Moyer, JoAnne Roe, Claudia Sahagun, Patricia Staszak, Marie Urbanski, Mark Woods, Jessica Young, and Barbara Zahrieh.  Dr. Bridge reported on the high school’s participation in the College of DuPage Personnel Fair of which Dr. Danes is one of the organizers.  Nineteen schools talked with over 1,500 applicants.  Dr. Bridge reported that a second Parent Teacher Conference was scheduled for March 2 from 5 to 8 p.m.   Dr. Bridge reported that the comments received about the 80 parents who had participated in the February 11 Parent Visitation Day were good. Dr. Bridge congratulated Mrs. Piekarski and the Food Service staff for enabling Oak Park and River Forest High School to qualify as one of the recipients of the Johnson’s Restaurant Award which is presented year by the Oak Park Health and Board of Health to local establishments for maintaining the highest level of sanitary food service during the preceding calendar.  Four students qualified as finalists in the Competition for Achievement Scholarship awards to be offered to outstanding African-American Students in 2000.  Twenty-two students have qualified as finalists in the 2000 Competition for Merit Scholarships.

Mr. Deptuch presented the Academic Catalog 2000-01.

Dr. Lebrecht reported that the school had applied and received a $50,000 grant for summer school maintenance.
