  • Student Council representative, Brendan O’Connell, was welcomed to the Board table as Student Council’s new liaison.
Board Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of January 15 and January 22, and February 5, 1998;personnel recommendations; financial reports; FDSE actions; and a resolution to transfer $2,700,000 from the Working Cash Fund to the Education Fund for the month of January; 
  • approved the revision of the 1998-99 School Calendar reflecting the new October 21 Institute Day;
  • moved to adopt the rules and regulations as presented in the General Catalog;
  • moved to authorize W. F. Gurrie to conduct the audit for the fiscal year 1998;
  • moved to direct the FY1999 tentative budget to be prepared and placed on display July 27, 1998;
  • moved to increase the amounts in the Resolution Authorizing Executive of Certain Vouchers;
  • moved to adopt a resolution, pursuant to the provisions of Article 20 of the School Code of the State of Illinois to issue bonds in the amount of $19,000,000 for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund and enabling the District to have in its treasury at all times sufficient money to meet the demands thereon for ordinary expenditures for corporate purposes; 
  • moved to adopt a resolution calling a public hearing concerning the intent of the Board of Education of Consolidated High School District Number 200, Cook County, Illinois to sell $19,000,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds and $183,900 School Fire Prevention and Safety Bonds; 
  • moved to certify thirty-two students as graduating mid-year, January 23, 1998;
  • moved to accept with gratitude from Robert Gauger an 80386-based PC and monitor to the Technology Department; from Lynne Clark two hundred seven dollars and seven cents for Campaign 1997 OPRF; from Bob Sloan and Thomas Tassos seventy-three Auto Repair Manuals, an offer to speak at auto classes and to visit their facility (Harlem & Division Auto Repair); and from Norb Teclaw a donation made in the names of Rich Deptuch, Chris Matuszczak, Mike Swierk, and Ray Urbanski a video tape (Casimir Pulaski: Hero of Two Countries) and study guide to the Library;
  • approved the sabbatical leaves for the 1998-99 school year;
  • received the GMOS report and thanked the GMOS Committee for the hours of work the members did on this; and
  • upheld the three-day suspensions of two students and expelled two students for second semester of the 1997-98 school year but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon enrollment and regular attendance in an Ombudsman program for second semester of the 1997-98 school year; in counseling via the school’s community support staff, and meeting with the Safe Schools Coordinator regarding goal setting and job placement.
 
Reports Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Offermann announced the PTO benefit dinner on Friday, February 27, 1998. He also noted that Senator Durkin visited the School February 20 in conjunction with the American Lung Association to meet with students on the issue of teen-age smoking. 

Art teacher, Sandy Campbell, was named to the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art’s education committee. As a result of a former student’s nomination, science teacher Mark Woods was named in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 1998. In addition, Dr. Offermann praised volunteer, Lana Geselbracht, for logging 1000 hours as a computer Lab Assistant in the ICC so far this year. 
 
Dr. Offermann testified at a House Educational Committee in Springfield on Wednesday, February 25 regarding "hold harmless." 
 
Mr. Don Vogel reported on the technology accomplishments of the high school.

Dr. Danes reported that the Human Relations Training Committee training would start Thursday, March 5; the Evaluation Committee has agreed in concept as to what items will be included in the evaluation; the Data Committee’s focus is now on identifying the types of data to be tracked and maintained in all three districts. 

Mr. Sye reported that the Climate Committee was finalizing surveys for students, faculty, staff, and parents and these would be administered in March and April.
