This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak
Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting
Thursday, February 28, 2002.

Actions |
- approved the consent items: minutes of January 17, 24, February
1, 7, 14, and 19, 2002; personnel recommendations; financial
reports, and FDSE actions;
- accepted with gratitude from Mr. & Mrs. Reisberg, a donation
of a 1997 Tempo; from Athletico Sports Medicine and Physical
Therapy Center, a donation of baseball equipment worth $1,000;
from Mrs. Edward Aren, a donation of books; from Mr. Kirk Oliver,
an OPRFHS alumnus, a donation of 41 miscellaneous electronic
components; from Mr. James Lemar, a donation of an Easy Stand
to the Special Education Department for physical therapy; from
Pamela Jansen, a donation of three prom dresses; from Helen
Nickelson, Grace Rarity, L. M. DeAlba, Mary K. Brown, Mary S.
Murphy, Lovey Shaughnessy, Marjorie Sommer; Mr. & Mrs. Earl
Corrigan, Rev. & Mrs. Donald Register, Maxine Redmond, The
Kays family, The Marshalek family, and Mr. & Mrs. Peterson,
Jr., monetary donations in memory of George Rarity designated
for the Athletic Department; from Mr. & Mrs. Lock, a donation
of two fur coats for the Drama Department; from Masters Educational
Assistance Foundation, a donation of $2,000 to the Special Olympics
and 120 Bulls Tickets to the Best Buddies Program; from Mrs.
Kathleen McShane, a monetary donation to the Drama Department;
and from Ms. Terri Kolodzie, of the McDonald Corporation, a
donation of a piano to the Music Department;
- authorized W. F. Gurrie to conduct the audit for FY '02;
- authorized the preparation of the FY '03 Tentative Budget
and its placement on display as of July 22, 2002, and publication
of all public notices regarding the Tentative Budget in the
Oak Leaves and Wednesday Journal;
- adopted the FY' 02 Supplementary Budget as presented;
- approved a moratorium on Sabbatical Leave Requests for the
2002-03 school year;
- certified thirty-one students as mid-year graduates as of
January 18, 2002, as presented;
- accepted with gratitude District 90's resolution in support
of the March 19, 2002 Referendum sought by District 200;
- accepted with gratitude District 97's resolution in support
of passage of the March 19, 2002 Referendum; and
- expelled one student as of February 28, 2002 for the remainder
of the 2001/02
school year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon
completion of enrollment and regular attendance at a private
day placement recommended by the Special Education team and
ongoing counseling; and expelled one student as of February
28, 2002, for the remainder of the 2001/02 school year and summer
school, but to hold the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon
completion of enrollment and regular attendance at B.E.A.C.O.N.S.
ACADEMY for the remainder of the 2001/02 school year and ongoing
counseling provided by B.E.A.C.O.N.S. ACADEMY.

Reports Dr. Bridge reported on 1) the Northwest Personnel Administrators'
Teacher Recruitment Fair held at the College of DuPage and credited
Jason Edgecombe and Donna Sebestyen for the endless work they
did on this endeavor; 2) the fact that only 769 freshman students
were expected to enroll next year, but that number has grown to
836; 3) the successful NAAPID dinner held on February 12 and the
excellent work done by Mrs. Stevens, Mr. Demos and Ms. Piekarski
on its preparation; 4) the upcoming Parent Visitation Day of March
13; 5) OPRFHS' second annual Black Professionals Day organized
magnificently by faculty member, Scotty Jones; 6) the lost funding
from the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority and the Illinois
Criminal Justice Information Authority for the Youth Interventionist
Program; and 7) the successful PTO Benefit and winter musical
Mame.

Assignment |
The following Board members volunteered to review the textbooks
for the
divisions as follows: World Languages-Spanish for Oral and
Written Review, to be reviewed by Mr. Wolfman; History-The
Anchor Atlas of World History, Volume I: From the Stone Age to
the Eve of the French Revolution, to be reviewed by Mrs. Fisher;
The Anchor Atlas of World History, Volume II: From the Stone
Age to the Eve of the French Revolution, to be reviewed by
Mrs. Fisher; and Mathematics-Intermediate Algebra: Concepts
and Applications, to be reviewed by Mr. Rigas.
Mr. Edgecombe stated that next the Board would be asked to approve
resolutions authorizing the honorary release of probationary teachers
and educational support staff due to the District's financial
state.
