This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday, March 23, 2000.
 
Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of February 24, 2000; personnel recommendations; financial reports; and FDSE actions; 
  • approved Policy 4220, Non-Certified Professionals’ and Managers’ Retirement Benefits for first reading;
  • approved District 200 Amended Budget for FY’00 to be presented for public display on March 27, 2000;
  • approved the FDSE 2000-01 Budget as a Member District to be presented for public display on March 27, 2000;
  • approved the School District Interagency Agreement for Criminal History Record Information;
  • authorized renewal of the IHSA membership by certifying that the Board of Education has voted to adopt and abide by the Constitution, By-Laws, Terms and Conditions, and Administrative Procedures, Guidelines and Policies of the Association for the 2000-2001 school term; 
  • accepted with gratitude monetary donations from the Huskie Booster Club and the PTO to purchase an electronic marquee for the high school; tools and equipment from the estate of Charles Cortiletti for use in the Technology Department and the Buildings and Grounds Department; and, from Donald C. Batalia, 138 books related to the Civil War, World War I and World War II for the Library;
  • approved the resolution authorizing NOTICE OF DISMISSAL of probationary teachers;
  • approved the appointment of Jason Edgecombe to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Operations effective July 1, 2000;
  • expelled two students for the remainder of the 1999/00 school year and summer school but will hold the expulsions in abeyance contingent upon completion enrollment and regular attendance in an Ombudsman program for the remainder of the 1999-00 school year and upon the students’ return to school, in receipt of three to five certifiable counseling sessions and contact with the school’s Community Support Staff for counseling services, and upheld one student’s three-day in-school suspension.

Reports Superintendent’s Report—Dr. Bridge reported that a parent meeting, sponsored by Community Support Staff, The Huskie Boosters, APPLE, Citizens’ Council,  PTO, NAACP and the Substance Abuse Council, was being held at the same time as the Board meeting to deal with the subject of substance abuse as an issue which has had a higher profile since the Milton Creagh presentation.  The first PLUS ONE Award ceremony was held March 14 to honor students who had raised their GPA 1.0 over last semester’s cumulative GPA.  Dr. Bridge thanked all of the local agencies and specifically the Oak Park Police Department for their guidance and support on the Critical Incidence Response Plan which was unveiled to the faculty and staff March 20, 2000; Newsweek included ORPFHS in their list of the most challenging schools in the nation.

Mr. Lanenga presented the Semester Class Size and Teacher Loads. 

Dr. Danes presented the early retirement participants as of June 2000, the plans of personnel currently on leave, and the certified non-administrative personnel list of 2000-01.
