Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting
Thursday, April 25, 2002.

The Board of Education congratulated
1) the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America students
on their achievements at the State Leadership ConferenceCarl
Winters, Gabe Boyer, Patrick Comer, Frederick Matthews and their
sponsors, Darlene Kabat and Pam Erickson; 2) the Cheerleaders on
their First Place Award in the Varsity Non-Tumbling Division of
the American Challenge National Championships for CheerleadingTiffany
Barnett, Irie Buchanan, Naferteria Corbert, Nina Jackson, Alanna
Johnson, Raven McGill, Aisha McGlory, Erin Polk, Kenyetta Puckett,
Ashley Williams, and Tiffany Young and their sponsors Ericka Sellers
and Michelle Jackson; and 3) those students who participated in
the second-round of the AIMEAlan Bernstein, Alexander Dengel,

Actions |
- approved the consent items: minutes of March 5, 14, 21, and
April 3, 2002; personnel recommendations; financial reports,
and FDSE actions;
approved the following textbooks for the Applied Arts Division:
Principles of Economics, Edition 3.
- amended Policy 5114, Student Discipline, as presented
- approved for first reading Policy 4100, Faculty Senate;
- approved conditionally the contract for removing the utility
poles from the South Lake St. Field for $62,418.44 to Commonwealth
Edison, $8,822.21 to Ameritech and $1853.46 to AT&T subject
to further discussions with the utilities, Wight & Company,
and discovery of any franchising agreement with the Village
of Oak Park;
- approved conditionally the changed orders for the installation
of light spill controls with further investigation of the light
spill controls at a cost of $4,900 and an interior design change
to add a locker room for women coaches at a cost of $30,250;
- approved removing the soil containing regulated compounds
above the Tier I Remediation Objectives for Residential Properties
set forth in 35 Illinois Administrative Code Part 742 from the
South Lake St. field, transport the soil offsite by a licensed
waste hauler to a permitted facility, and upon completion of
soil excavation, collect samples to verify that all contaminated
soil has been removed.
- accepted with gratitude from Mr. & Mrs. John H. Wirtz,
a monetary donation to the Athletic Department in memory of
George Rarity; a monetary donation in memory of Molly Chihosz
to the S.A.D.D. organization in the Drivers Education
Department; from Mr. Norman Carlson, a 1993 Chrysler automobile
to the auto shop; from Mr. John Rigas, two copies of Microsoft
Visio to the Technology Department; and from the Target Take
Charge of Education School Fundraising Program sponsored by
Target Stores, a monetary contribution of $1,171.57;
- approved the abatement of emergency days for the 2001-02 school
year;
- approved the revision to the 2002-03 school calendar as presented;
- approved the Resolution Approving the Appointment of North
Berwyn District 98, Cook County, Illinois as the Administrative
District of the Federation of Districts for Special Education
(FDSE); and
- Expelled one student effective April 25, 2002, for the remainder
of the 2001/02 school year, summer school, and the entire 2002/03
school year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon
completion of enrollment and regular attendance at Ombudsman
for the remainder of the 2001/02 school year and the entire
2002/03 school year, and ongoing counseling; and, expelled one
student effective April 25, 2002, for the remainder of the 2001/02
school year, summer school, and the entire 2002/03 school year,
but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion
of enrollment and regular attendance at an alternative placement
recommended by the Special Education Team for the remainder
of the 2001/02 school year and the entire 2002/03 school year,
and ongoing counseling

Mr. Deptuch spoke about the wonderful cooperation from the junior
class on its taking the Prairie State Achievement Examinations.
Dr. Lebrecht presented the Tentative Amended Levy, which included
the amount received as a result of the recently passed referendum.
