May 24, 2001.

The Board recognized 1) James Bixby and Miles Putman for
placing in the top ten in the Business Professionals of America’s national
competition in the Team Economic Research Project and Miles Putman for
placing in the top 10 in the Individual Economic Research and James Bixby
for placing 1st in the nation; 2) Yegor “Alex” Adarichev for placing third
in the Illinois Drafting Educators Association State Competition; 3) Dan
Rey, Joe Euler, Nick Reder, Daniel Mokrauer-Madden and David LeBlanc for
placing sixth in the Illinois State Math Competition; 4) Alonzo Blunt in
his official role as the 2000-01 State President of the Illinois Association
of FCCLA, Carl Winters for placing third in Pastry Arts: Cooking Decoration,
Kimberly Barber for placing second in Culinary Arts: Garden Manger Relish
Tray, Tiffany Surrell for placing second in Personal Sewing: Two
Piece Garment, Gabe Boyer for placing second in the Food Service Star Event,
Hester Kohl, for placing first in Culinary Arts: Salad Showcase, Lauren
Tomb for placing first in Fashion Apparel Display, Patrick Comer for being
Outstanding in State in the Food Service Star Event, Matthew Wetzel for
placing Outstanding in State in the Interpersonal Communication Star Event;
and Matthew Alexander, Katherine Allen, Courtney Cass, Patrick Comer, Shenna
Engleman, Dana Gradman, Dan Kibblesmith, Amelia Kmiec, Stephanie Kuhr,
Anthony Millard, Rebecca Noel, Shay O’Connor, Kyle Petit, G. Matthew Polito,

approved the consent items: minutes of April 10, 19, and 30, 2001;
declared that the closed session minutes from November 1, 2000 to May 1,
2001 shall remain closed; personnel recommendations; FDSE actions, and
financial reports;
approved the following textbooks for the divisions as follows:
Special Education Division—Study Strategies Made Easy/A Practical Plan
for School Success, reviewed by Mr. McCulloh, and HM Learning &
Study Skills Program Level One, reviewed by Mr. McCulloh; History Division—The
American Nation, reviewed by Mrs. Leavy, Comparative Politics– A
Global Introduction, reviewed by Mrs. Fisher, World History: Patterns
of Interaction, reviewed by Mr. McCulloh, Kaffir Boy, reviewed
by Mr. Stewart, and HERLAND, reviewed by Mrs. Leavy; Foreign Language
Division—En Espanol 1 and soft cover workbook reviewed by Mrs. Peterson,
and En Espanol 2 and soft cover workbook reviewed by Mrs. Peterson.
accepted with gratitude a donation to the music department in memory
of graduate, Teddy Phillips, by Kay Nicholas and a cash donation to the
students of the TEAM program from the Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory
to help defray the cost of their trip on the Odyssey Cruise Ship;
approved the proposal for an OPRF Child Care Center to be used by both
T.A.P.P. and OPRFHS faculty and staff members;
approved and renewed the medical insurance contract with Blue Cross/Blue
Shield;
approved the renewal of dental coverage with Delta Dental and the Administration
Fee of the two-year renewal with the guaranteed cost of $4.29;
approved the Student Fees for the 2001-02 school year as presented;
approved the Federation of Districts for Special Education’s Operating
Budget for FY 02 as a member of the FDSE District;
approved the annual appointment of Division Heads, Dean Counselors,
Deans of Discipline, and the Athletic Director for the 2001-02 school year
as presented;
approved the 2001-02 Student Handbook including the Code of Conduct
as presented;
appointed the Citizens’ Council membership for the 2001-02 school year
as presented;
approved the 2001 Tradition of Excellence Award Recipients—Ruby Jay,
Donna Conlon-Brosal, Jacqueline Schiff-Nemerovski, and Laura Kragie.
approved the requests for the name and address labels of the 2001 graduating
seniors by Congressional Representative Danny K. Davis and State Representative
Karen Yarbrough;
approved the change in Article 27 in the Faculty Senate Agreement regarding
retirement as presented in order to be in compliance with state and federal
law; and
expelled student EXP 5/24/01-17 for the remainder of the 2000-01 school
year, summer school, and first semester of the 2001-02 school year, but
held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon receipt of tutoring for
the remainder of the 2001-02 school year; enrollment and regular attendance
at BEACONS Academy for the first semester of the 2001-02 school year and
ongoing counseling;

| Reports |
Dr. Bridge reported that 1) Student Council held a picnic for the school’s
neighbors, and 2) over 1,000 students have received awards and/or
scholarships this year. She then highlighted upcoming events.
Mrs. Bennett gave the Triton Evening School Spring Report. Mr.
Deptuch presented a Prairie State Achievement Test update. Dr. Lebrecht
presented OPRFHS preliminary budget. Mrs. Stevens gave a commencement
update.
The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison
representative responsibilities.
