This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday, June 28, 2001.
 
Recognition
  • The Board recognized the Boys’ Baseball Team on taking second place in the state competition.

Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of May 17 and May 24, 2001; personnel recommendations; FDSE actions, and financial reports;
  • approved the following textbook for the Fine and Performing Arts Division, Theatre: Art in Action, reviewed by Mrs. Lucchesi;
  • certified the 615 graduates of the Class of 2001;
  • accepted with gratitude a donation of seven prom dresses from Kipankar Mukhopadhyay, a donation of a white prom dress from Mildred Benson, a donation of a white prom dress from Ms. Dossey, and a donation of a man’s suit from Jim and Mary Ellen Bethke;
  • approved District 200’s FY’02 Budget and the FDSE Tentative Budget to be presented for public display on July 23, 2001; 
  • approved the renewal of the Liability Umbrella Insurance and School Board Legal Insurance through Collective Liability Insurance Cooperative (CLIC) that is administered through AON Risk Resources Insurance Agency, Inc.;
  • approved determining the Prevailing Wage Rates for laborers and outside contracts in Cook County, and placing a notice in the Oak Leaves regarding the Prevailing Wages and serving notice as necessary that the wages are effective for the 2001/2002 school year;
  • approved the transfer of excess funds as a result of interest income from the Bond and Interest Fund to the Operations and Maintenance Fund;
  • authorized the resolution to transfer a total of $400,000 from the Working Cash Fund to the Education Fund;
  • approved the renewal of the workers’ Compensation Insurance with School Employees Lost Fund for F’02;
  • approved the stipend positions and assignments for 2001-2002; 
  • approved the Administrators’ Continuing Education Plans as presented;
  • approved the Substitute Teacher/Clerical Pay Rates for 2001-02 school year; and
  • moved the Board of Education’s regular September 2001 meeting date from Thursday, September 27, 2001 to Tuesday, September 25, 2001.
 
Reports Dr. Bridge formally thanked A.P.P.L.E., Boosters, and the PTO for their collaborative effort on the co-authored letter to parents of seniors on commencement and Rich Mertz for organizing the senior picnic, which helped to set the tone for commencement of which the administration, faculty, parents and students could be proud.  Dr. Bridge reported that 1) 197 college and university representatives visited with 786 students in the 2000-01 school year; 2) 1,156 students were enrolled in 1,560 summer school classes; 3) OPRFHS volunteered to provide the Park District with space for its fine arts for elementary students because it lost some of its facilities in other schools due to construction; 4) 45 students participated in the June 11th Second Annual African-American Student Leadership Conference which focused on how to improve participation of African-Americans in extra curricular activities; 5) a formal report will be given at the August Board meeting on the Third Annual Minority Student Achievement Network in Cambridge, Massachusetts in which OPRFHS participated; 6) the Harris Company is working on a complete revision of the alumni directory; and 7) OPRFHS will host the July 4th fireworks celebration.

Mrs. Stevens presented the co-curricular participation report.  Mr. Edgecombe presented the faculty attendance record.  Dr. Lebrecht presented the Faculty Facility Master Plan Committee Report. 

The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison representative responsibilities.
