This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday, August 24, 2000.
 
Recognition The Board recognized the Volunteer of the Year Martha Brock and the FCCLA HERO Award Winners Matthew Wetzel, Alexandra King, Quiana McJunkins, Whitney Atkins, Hester Kohl and Alonzo Blunt.

Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of June 22, July 6, July 24 and August 15, 2000; personnel recommendations; financial reports; and FDSE actions; 
  • ratified the Board of Education goals as presented;
  • approved the textbooks for the divisions as follows: English Division—The Inferno, reviewed by Mr. Bruner; and The Color of Water, reviewed by Mrs. Lucchesi.
  • accepted with gratitude from Charles H. Kramer to the Oak Park and River Forest High School library, a book entitled Therapeutic Master: Becoming a More Creative and Effective Psychotherapist; and from Maurice and Toni Moore, a red Volvo for use in the automotive shop;
  • adopted the Oak Park and River Forest High School District # 200 Budget for FY ’01;
  • adopted the Federation of Districts for Special Education FY’01 Budget by Oak Park and River Forest High School District #200 as presented;
  • approved the applications for Specialized Instruction provided by Non-certificated persons—Nana Herron and Gary Novak;
  • approved the appointment of Dean Counselor Catherine Marshall and Dean of Discipline Jim Goodfellow for the 2000-01 school year;
  • approved the 2000-01 Code of Conduct to remain the same as it was for the 1999-2000 school year;
  • approved the appointment of Diane Aiello as a replacement for Jean D’Amico on the Citizens’ Council;

Reports Dr. Bridge reported on the activities of the Institute and Staff Development Days, August 24 and 25, and Freshman Orientation on August 25 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Dr. Bridge expressed her appreciation to the Villages of Oak Park and River Forest and their police departments for continuing the School Resource Officers’ Program.  Dr. Bridge thanked the Oak Park Police Department for its efforts on the school’s Critical Incident Response Plan.  This plan will be shared in general with the students, and a drill will be conducted during the school year.  Dr. Bridge reported that the school has received an Early Childhood Grant in the amount of $23,525 to be used for the TAPP program.  Dr. Bridge invited the Board members to the Regional Exchange Congress’ luncheon and afternoon sessions on September 21.  Dr. Bridge stated that the Back-to-School Open House would be held September 14 at 7:00 p.m. in auditorium. 

Mr. Vogel presented the 2000 Summer School Report.  Mrs. Stevens gave reports on the Transcript Summary, the Advanced Placement Examination Scores, the Ombudsman and Career/Works Program, the West 40 Alternative School, and the Attendance Statistics.

The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison representative responsibilities.
