This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River
Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday,
September 28, 2000.

approved the consent items: minutes of August 22 and 24, 2000; personnel
recommendations; financial reports; FDSE actions; 2000-01 school year activities
covered under Board Policy 5132; and the 2000 summer graduates;

accepted the audit of District 200 for the FY ‘00 year as presented;
-
approved Policies 1120, 4110, and 4210 and the Procedures for Policy 1120
for first readings;
-
approved the 2000-2001 Assurances for District Compliance;
-
approved a Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program application for Naomi Jackson;
-
approved closing the school building at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November
22, 2000; and
-
reviewed and approved the amendment to the superintendent’s contract.

Dr. Bridge reminded the Board of the following events: Joint Annual
Conference November 17, 18, and 19; the Tradition of Excellence Dinner
on October 12; the Homecoming Parade on October 7; the Makin’ Tracks Race
on October 14, Parent’s Visitation Day on October 19; parochial and public
school eighth-grade parent nights on October 2 and 23 and November 13 and
27; the combined high school and junior high parent night with Milton Creagh
on November 9; and the jointly-produced fashion show on November 12 by
APPLE, Boosters, and PTO. Dr. Bridge reported that the Class of 2001
has 26 students who qualified as National Merit Semifinalists, 7 National
Merit Achievement Semifinalists, and 42 Commended Students, making the
total number of students acknowledged by the National Merit Foundation
to be over 10 percent of the senior class. Dr. Bridge reported on
the Minority Student Achievement Network’s Governing Board’s meeting that
she attended last week and the upcoming National Student Leadership Conference
in Cleveland October 4-7, 2000, to which Mr. Edgecombe and Mrs. Smith-Kent
will escort five OPRFHS students. Dr. Bridge acknowledged Mr. Vogel’s
letter of appreciation to the Oak Park Youth Township for its summer work-study
program.
Mr. Deptuch reported on the ACT and SAT test results.
Dr. Lebrecht reported on the construction that took place in the north
and south corridors and in the auditorium. Dr. Lebrecht presented
the textbook and fees report.
Dr. Lebrecht reported that Oak Park and River Forest High School
received the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International’s
Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for its Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report for FY’99.
Mr. Edgecombe presented the Probationary Teachers by Division for the
2000-01 school year.
Mrs. Stevens reported that OPRFHS has two tuition-paying students and
six foreign exchange students—one from Norway, one from Slovakia, one from
Ukraine, one from Japan, and two from Italy—attending this year.
