This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2000.
 
Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of September 28, October 13, and  October 19, 2000; personnel recommendations; financial reports; FDSE actions;
  • Accepted with gratitude a 1988 Chevrolet donated by Patric Dailey of Oak Park; a wheelchair donated by Nancy Kelly Ristau; and the books Lessons in Excellence from Charlie Trotter and Charlie Trotter’s—An Insider’s Look at the Famed Restaurant and Its Cuisine donated by George Bigley, Restaurant Manager for Charlie Trotter’s Restaurant;
  • amended Policy 1120 as presented;
  • amended Policy 4110 as presented;
  • deleted Policy 4210 as presented;
  • amended Procedures for Policy 1120 as presented; 
  • adopted the EAP contract with Workplace Solutions as presented; and
  • upheld the three-day out-of-school suspension of student SUS 10/26/00-1; and expelled student EXP 10/26/00-3 for the remainder of the 2000/01 school year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion of enrollment and regular attendance in an alternative program for the remainder of the 2000/01 school year and upon the student’s return to school, he/she must have a minimum of 3 to 5 certifiable counseling sessions and contact the school’s Community Support Staff for counseling services.
     
     
Reports Dr. Bridge reported 1) on the successful Homecoming parade and dance and announced that the Village of Oak Park plans to use this parade as the kick-off for its centennial celebration next year; 2) that Fine and Performing Arts Division Head Boulware was named to the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Teacher Advisory Committee, and Band and Orchestra Director Scotty Jones will be the guest conductor at the Illinois Music Association Jazz Festival and the University of Wisconsin’s Annual Honors Band Festival; 3) that in excess of 100 parents participated in the October 19 Parents’ Visitation Day; 4) that October 23-27 was designated as Red Ribbon Week;  5) that Milton Creagh will speak to parents and students on anti-drug use November 9;  6) that students who increased their GPA 1.0 or more over last semester were celebrated at the Plus One Award Breakfast; 
and 7) that 19 teachers had been recognized for their teaching excellence in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 2000. 

Dr. Lebrecht announced that Oak Park and River Forest High School had placed first in the corporate category of the “Makin’ Tracks” Race on October 14 and presented first-place medals to team members Bruner, McCulloh, Stewart, Bridge, and himself. 

Dr. Lebrecht reported that an agreement had been reached with Everest Health Care Service and the high school on the sale of its property.

Mrs. Bennett reported on Triton College’s fall evening school housed in the high school.  Mr. Deptuch presented the “School Profile.”

Dr. Lebrecht reviewed the highlights on the school’s five-year financial plan. 

Mr. Edgecombe presented the Certified Staff Seniority List for 2000-01, the Certified Personnel Profile for 2000-01, the Sabbatical Leave Report of 1999-2000, the Educational Support Personnel Profile, and the School Report Card.

Mrs. Stevens presented the Aid to Needy Children Report and the Student Withdrawal Report.

Mr. Lanenga presented the October 1 statistics.

The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison representative responsibilities.
