This is a summary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Tuesday, November 9, 1999.
 
 
Recognition
    The Board recognized the Girls’ Field Hockey Team for winning first in state.  Dr. Bridge expressed the appreciation of the faculty, staff, students and administration to the Retiring Board under the leadership of Mr. Chester L. Stewart.
     
Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of October 18, 21 and 28, 1999; personnel recommendations; and FDSE actions; declared that the Closed Session Minutes from May 1, 1999 to November 1, 1999 remain closed;
  • approved the School Improvement Plan (SIP) for the 1999-2000 school year;
  • accepted with gratitude a cash donation of $2,500 from Jasculcaterman Assoc. to assist in purchasing a TV Camera;
  • expelled two students for the remainder of Semester I of the 1999-00 school year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion of the enrollment and regular attendance in an Ombudsman program for Semester I of the 1999-00 school year and in receipt of counseling via the school’s community support staff.

Reports Superintendent's Report -Dr. Susan Bridge reported on the memorial service for faculty member Gary Olson in Auditorium of the high school where the String Ensemble, Marching Band and Gospel Choir performed; on the electronic threat to the MCCI Church, confirmed the high school’s full cooperation with the Oak Park Police Department, and invited all to a panel and vigil scheduled for November 21 at Pilgrim Church to answer questions and express support; Parent Visitation Day for parents of eighth graders will be February 11; an additional Parent/Teacher Day will be scheduled for the spring; senior Rachel Nordgren was the Siemens Award Winner; and The Booster Club donated $28,000 in requests.

Dr. Bridge introduced to the Board the new School Resource Officers Kendra Sullivan and Jacques Conway.

Dr. Stephen E. Lebrecht presented an Estimated Levy which will be approved in final form in December.

 Mr. Lanenga made a presentation on the enrollment projections.

The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison representative responsibilities.

This is a summary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at the Organizational meeting on Thursday, November 9, 1999.  Board members are President Stephen C. Bruner, Vice President John R. McCulloh, Secretary Regina Kwan Peterson, Chester L. Stewart, III, Gerard M. Jacobs, Nancy Leavy and Valerie Fisher.
 
Oath of Office  Assistant Superintendent Stephen E. Lebrecht administered the Oath of Office to the re-elected Board members Gerard M. Jacobs, Regina Kwan Peterson and Nancy Leavy and they were seated.
 
Board Actions Elected Stephen C. Bruner as President, John R. McCulloh as Vice President and Regina Kwan Peterson as Secretary of the Board of Education for one-year terms;

Authorized a new check-signer plate;

Approved the following Board meeting dates for 2000: January 27, February 24, March 23, April 27, May 25, June 22, August 24, September 28, October 26, November 16, and December 21.



The next regular Board Meeting will be on Thursday, December 16, 1999, at 7:30 p.m., Board Conference Rooms.
