This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2001.
 
Recognition

.The Board recognized the Girls' Field Hockey Team for placing second in State under Head Barb Coach Liles. The Board also recognized retiring Board Member Chester L. Stewart for his ten years of unsurpassed service to the school and to the communities.

Board
Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of October 17, 18, 25, 29, November 5, and 8, 2001 and declared that the Closed Minutes from May 1, 2001 through November 1, 2001 shall remain closed; personnel recommendations; financial reports, and FDSE actions;
  • approved the textbook Watershed 2: Ten Cases in Environmental Ethics for the Science Division, reviewed by Mrs. Peterson;
  • accepted with gratitude a monetary donation from Mr. John Olson to the Best Buddies Organization; from Evelyn Hayes, a wheelchair to the TEAM program; and from the Ernest Hemingway Foundation, the book Picturing Hemingway: A Writer in His Time to the school's library and dedicated to Clarmarie White, Class of 1931;
  • approved the commencement of the Stadium/South Field Construction Project process;
  • accepted the Citizens' Finance Advisory Committee report as presented;
  • approved an Administrative Sick Leave Bank;
  • approved a Resolution Authorizing Notice to Remedy;
  • expelled two students for the remainder of Semester I of the 2001-02 school year and through summer school, but held the expulsions in abeyance contingent upon completion of enrollment and regular attendance at B.E.A.C.O.N.S. Academy for the remainder the 2001/02 school year and ongoing counseling; and expelled one student for the remainder of Semester I of the 2001-02 school year and through summer school, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion of enrollment and regular attendance at a private day placement recommended by the Special Education team for the remainder of the 2001-02 school year and ongoing counseling.
Reports

Dr. Bridge reported on the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences scheduled for November 20 and 21 and the very successful parent groups' co-sponsored fashion show held November 11 which featured the senior class. Dr. Bridge thanked Kay Foran and Carlotta Lucchesi for their work with the parent groups to help make the fashion show the success it was.

Dr. Lebrecht presented the Tax Levy Requests 2001/Five-year Financial Projects.

Mr. Lanenga presented the enrollment projections. Mr. Deptuch presented the 2001-02 School Profile.

The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison representative responsibilities.

This is a summary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at the Organizational meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2001.
Board Members Board members Valerie Fisher, Carlotta Lucchesi, Paul Wolfman, and John Rigas were officially seated for their elected terms of office.
Board Actions
  • extended the terms of the Board of Education offices of president, vice
    president, and secretary until the March 2002 Board meeting in order that the terms of these offices coincide with the election schedule.
  • approved the following Board meeting dates for 2002, January 24, February 28, March 21, April 25, May 23, June 27, August 22, September 26, October 24, November 21, and December 19.
   

The next regular Board Meeting will be on Thursday, December 20, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Conference Room.
