This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River
Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting on Thursday,
March 22, 2001.
| Recognition |
The Board of Education recognized the outstanding accomplishments
of the
students who participated in the Business Professionals of America
State Competition and the IHSA State Individual Events Speech Competition.

Board
Actions |
approved the consent items: minutes of February 22, 2001; personnel
recommendations; financial reports; and FDSE actions;
approved the following textbook for the Applied Arts Division–Sports
and Entertainment Marketing, reviewed by Mr. Stewart;
convened a Finance Advisory Committee that will furnish a report to
the Board for the purpose of reviewing the use of the Restricted Building
Fund;
authorized the administration to complete projects during the
summer of 2001 and to be paid for in FY’02;
approved that the planning for the development of the athletic fields
shall include the stadium façade being preserved and used to its
maximum practical extent;
approved the IHSA Membership;
accepted with gratitude a contribution of $25 to the Library in memory
of Ruth Koch by Patricia Schmidt; donations of $1,000 from the Huskie Booster
Club and $2,500 from the Huskie Booster Softball Satellite to be used toward
the purchase and installation of a new softball scoreboard, presented by
Charles Dressell; and a donation of $900 to be used toward the purchase
of varsity softball uniforms by the Huskie Booster Softball Satellite,
presented by Charles Dressell;
affirmed the current non-school sponsored activity practices as appropriate;
approved the Resolution Authorizing Dismissal of Part- and Full-Time
Probationary Teachers;
approved the School District Interagency Agreement for Criminal History
Record;
approved the revision of the 2001-02 school calendar;
approved the 2002-03 school calendar;
expelled student EXP 3/22/01-13 for the remainder of the 2000-01 school
year, summer school, and first semester of the 2001-02 school year, but
held the expulsion in abeyance contingent upon completion of enrollment
and regular attendance at BEACONS Academy or an alternative placement recommended
by the Special Education Team for second semester of the 2000-01 school
year and first semester of the 2001/02 school year, completion of the Oak
Park and River Forest High School’s Special Education screening process,
and ongoing counseling; and expelled student EXP 3/22/01-14 for the remainder
of the 2000-01 school year, but held the expulsion in abeyance contingent
upon completion of enrollment and regular attendance at BEACONS Academy
for second semester of the 2000-01 school year, and ongoing counseling;
and
approved a confidential settlement agreement with a District employee.

| Reports |
Dr. Bridge reported on 1) the results of the students who competed
in the February 13 American Mathematics competition, 2) *SchoolSearch’s
honor of OPRFHS with the Bright A+ Award; 3) the April 4 recognition of
the students who qualified for the Plus One Award; 4) the March 1 Parent
Teacher Conferences; 5) an OPRFHS graduate’s receiving the Golden Apple
Award; 6) Student Jessica Kreyer’s choreographed dance piece performed
by Orchesis earning top recognition at the state level.
Mr. Edgecombe presented the early retirement participants of June 2001
and the plans of personnel currently on leave.
Mr. Lanenga presented the Second Semester Class Size and Teacher Loads.
The Board Members reported on their various Board committee and liaison
representative responsibilities. |
