This is a sumary of the actions of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education at its last meeting Thursday, May 23, 2002.
 
Board
Recognition

The Board of Education congratulated 1) the second place winners of the IHSA Girls' Water Polo State Championship: Aleah Brubaker, Laura Boyer, Whitney Kerr, Jessie VanAalst, Lara Phillips, Katy Dirkes, Claire Walter, Annie Kiening, Elise Vecchio, Kendra Betke, Lizzie Gamboney, Christina Diaz, Claire Holdren, Angel Dietz, Sheri Uslander, Leanne Schroeder, Rachel Arguello, Stella Brown, and their coaches Sue McFarlin, Julie McGraw, Allison McDonnell, and Ron Hernandez; 2) the sophomore mathematics team which consisted of Daniel Rey, Matthew Fisher, Daniel Mokrauer-Madden, David LeBlanc, Nicholas Reder and Joseph Euler and placed fifth, the freshman/sophomore eight-person mathematics team which consisted of Daniel Locasto, Chioma Anigbogu, Amy Rohling, Alex McLeese, Daniel Rey, Matthew Fisher, Daniel Mokrauer-Madden and Joseph Euler and placed third, and David LeBlanc who placed 7th individually, at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics State Math Competition in Champaign/Urbana and their coaches Sheila Hardin and Christine Mondragon; and 3) the Illinois Drafting Educators Association's second and third place State Competition winners, Alex Adarichev and Damir Vukouljak and their advisor Ron Heiman.

Actions
  • approved the consent items: minutes of April 15, 23, and May 14, 2002; personnel recommendations; financial reports, and FDSE actions;
  • approved the following textbooks for the Science Division, Environmental Science: A Study of Interrelationships;
  • amended Policy 4100, Faculty Senate, as presented;
  • approved for first reading Policy 1250, Internet Safety;
  • accepted with gratitude from Donald Vogel, a playhouse and climbing apparatus to the OPRFHS Day Care Play Lot; and, two endowments in the amount of $20,000 and $30,000 on behalf of former faculty member and History Division chair, Gerald L. Greer;
  • renewed the Medical Insurance Contract with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and to use Drug Card Inc. for the prescription services, as presented;
  • approved the Student Fees as presented for the 2002-03 school year;
  • approved a two-year Intergovernmental Agreement with the Oak Park Township Youth Services in the amount of $23,353.28 for the first year;
  • approved the Federation of Districts for Special Education's Operating Budget for FY '03 as a member of the FDSE District;
  • appointed Richard Deptuch to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction effective July 1, 2002;
  • approved the administrative retirement date changes for Mr. Deptuch, Ms. Abbinanti, and Dr. Pagnucci as presented;
  • approved the resolution Authorizing NOTICE OF REDUCTION of Educational Support staff; and
  • approved the resolution authorizing Notice to Withdraw as a Member of the Federation of Districts for Special Education by Oak Park and River Forest High School, Cook County, Illinois Effective June 30, 2003;

Reports


Dr. Bridge reported that for the eleventh year, OPRFHS had received the "What Parents Want" Award, from SchoolMatch, one of the nation's largest school selection consulting firms.

Mr. Vogel and Mrs. Gini previewed OPRFHS's website "Alumni and Development" page. Mr. Edgecombe presented a list of educational support staff members in positions selected to be eliminated or reduced. Dr. Lebrecht presented the FY '03 preliminary budget. Wight & Company gave an update on the fields and stadium construction. Mrs. Stevens reported on the plans for the commencement ceremony at Hanson Stadium.
