The District 200 Board of Education is pleased to announce that in a unanimous vote, it has approved the hiring of Joylynn Pruitt, Ed.D., as interim superintendent for the 2016-2017 school year, effective July 1. Dr. Pruitt fills the position being vacated by Dr. Steven Isoye, who begins serving as superintendent of Niles Township High School District 219 on July 1.
Dr. Pruitt is retiring from her current position as superintendent of the School District of University City in University City, Mo., after serving in that role since 2007. The district comprises 3,200 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. She also is an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, as an instructor for its Doctorate Leadership Learning Community. Dr. Pruitt’s previous positions have included assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, elementary school principal, and 11 years as a teacher of special education. She earned her doctorate in educational policy and leadership from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in May 2015.
“In an excellent pool of candidates, Dr. Pruitt was a standout,” Board President Jeff Weissglass said. “She has a strong commitment to action and accountability around district mission and strategy. I believe that over the coming year, Dr. Pruitt will provide excellent leadership in advancing the district’s mission of excellence and equity for all students.”
Dr. Pruitt’s contract is for 200 days over the course of the 2016-2017 school year. The Board is working with educational leadership search consultant BWP and Associates to hire a permanent superintendent for the 2017-2018 school year.
