Community meeting on race rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14

October 19, 2017

A message from the superintendent:

Dear Oak Park and River Forest High School Community,

Late last week we announced our intention to hold a community meeting about race on Oct. 24.

We are rescheduling that event for Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m., in the OPRF South Cafeteria. (The event on talking to teens about sexual misconduct, originally scheduled for Oct. 24 and then preempted, also will be rescheduled on a date to be announced.)

After realizing that we were moving too quickly to organize the event for next week, we decided to pause, take a breath, and reflect more on how to make this dialogue about systemic racism healthy and productive. This is a topic that our community desperately wants and needs to address. Our goal is to initiate an ongoing conversation that is thoughtful, illuminating, and solution oriented. We hope you will join us.
