New FAQ addresses common referendum questions

In response to some of the most commonly asked questions about its Nov. 8, 2016, ballot question,* Oak Park and River Forest High School has published a new FAQ on its website. The new piece answers questions about:

  • Comparison of elements and costs of the approved facilities plan, with its single 40-meter pool, and a previously considered plan that had two pools

  • Costs of various plan components

  • Potential community use of the pool in the approved plan

*The Board of Education has place a referendum on the Nov. 8, 2016, ballot, which will allow voters to determine if $25 million in bonds should be issued to finance its unanimously adopted five-year facilities project. The first major upgrade since the 1960s, the plan includes new classrooms to accommodate 21st century learning; improved, expanded facilities to address 20% growth in performing arts class enrollment; a new 40-meter pool and modernized physical education spaces to replace the two 88-year old pools that together leak 3,000 gallons of water a day; renovated locker rooms to mitigate health and safety issues; and preservation of all green space, so athletic teams do not need to be relocated.
