OPRFHS names new head boys lacrosse coach

Oak Park and River Forest High school is pleased to announce that Rocco Chierici, junior varsity  boys lacrosse coach at OPRFHS, has been appointed as the Huskies’ new head boys lacrosse coach, starting with the 2016 season.

Rocco Chierici has coached for 15 seasons in the Huskies lacrosse program at various levels.  Some of his coaching accolades include:

• Served as Head Varsity Coach at OPRFHS from 1994 – 2000
• Coached the Huskies to a State Final Four finish in 1999
• Served as the Junior Varsity Head Coach from 2013 – 2015
• Served as Freshmen Asst. Coach from 2010 – 2012
• Served as Head Varsity Coach at Hinsdale Central HS from 1989 – 1993

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to promote an excellent coach like Rocco to the head coaching position,” Athletic Director John Stelzer said. “We always want to hire coaches with high energy, experience and who have a passion for coaching at OPRFHS. We know that Rocco has those qualities, and we believe he is the best fit for our community, our school, and our lacrosse program. We look forward to great success on and off the field under his proven leadership.”.

Coach Chierici stated, “I appreciate the opportunity that OPRFHS has given to me.  I look forward to serving our student-athletes, not only by teaching them the game of lacrosse, but also mentoring them on their journey into adulthood.  We will focus on fundamentals, demand commitment and push our athletes to be the very best they can be.”

Mr. Chierici will begin the transition process immediately by meeting with his student-athletes and coaching staff over the next few weeks.
