Oak Park and River Forest High School is pleased to announce that senior Darrell Sanders has been named one of the 10 Chicago-area Posse Scholars by the Posse Foundation. He was chosen from nearly 3,000 area students who applied.
The Posse Foundation, a national nonprofit with chapters in 10 major cities, chooses students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by the traditional college selection process. Working with top-tier partner colleges and universities, each chapter chooses a group of 10 students—a “posse”—and places them in supportive, multicultural teams at a single institution.
As this year’s Chicago chapter Posse Scholars, Darrell and the nine other local honorees will receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. “Receiving this scholarship is the greatest honor and privilege,” Darrell said. “This opportunity serves my future, but it is also a chance to give back to my parents the time and dedication they have invested in me throughout my life.” Darrell plans to major in biology and minor in computer science.
