Statement on Connecticut school incident

December 14, 2012

Dear OPRF Families,

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred today at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victims, their families, the community of Newton, and the countless others whose lives have been touched by this incomprehensible act of violence.

Such an incident reminds us all of the utmost importance of safety in our schools. We want to assure you that we have in place plans and procedures for dealing with a variety of dangerous situations, including a lockdown drill that we implement in response to the presence of an intruder in our buildings. We practice/review these plans and procedures with our students and staff on a regular basis to ensure that everyone knows how to respond in an emergency.

We will have our crisis team available to students on Monday, including counselors and social workers. If over the weekend you perceive that your student would benefit from talking with one of our staff members, please encourage him or her to visit the counseling office. And, as always, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s counselor or either one of us should you have any concerns.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Isoye                  Nathaniel Rouse
