Zoning variance request for taller safety nets

November 17, 2015

In order to enhance the safety of student-athletes, coaches, spectators, neighbors, and pedestrians, OPRF High School is requesting a zoning variance to increase the height of the safety netting around the baseball and softball fields, which are located at Linden Avenue and Erie Street. Incidents in recent years have proven that the current nets are not tall enough to keep foul balls from landing on Linden Avenue, the sidewalk, or parked and moving cars, nor the actively used football and soccer fields or tennis courts. The proposed replacement nets would be 10 feet higher than the current nets and would be installed in summer 2016. The zoning board will hold its hearing for the district’s variance request on Wed., Jan. 6, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Village Hall.
