Incoming Freshmen/Class of 2018

Below is the schedule of eighth-grade transition activities for the year. Attending these events will help ensure that you and your student make a successful transition to OPRF. Click here for a printable PDF that includes Principal Nate Rouse's welcome letter.

October 2014

For Students: Huskie Transition Tours
On a field trip to the high school, public-school eighth-graders from Districts 90 and 97 will learn about OPRF’s 200+ courses, 70 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports; tour the school; and participate in a Q&A session with OPRF students. Private-school students may attend on October 30 with an advance reservation. Please RSVP to Melody Brown, assistant to the Director of Student Activities, at mbrown@oprfhs.org or 708-434-3774.

For Students: Mandatory EXPLORE/World Language Placement Test at OPRF
Saturday, December 6, 8:00 a.m. (doors open at 7:45 a.m.)

No registration necessary for students who currently reside in Oak Park or River Forest. (Makeup test: Tuesday, December 9, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 13, 8:30 a.m. – noon. Registration required.)   A forthcoming letter will detail information regarding your student’s testing-room assignment.

January 2015

For Students: OPRF Student-Life Presentations to Eighth Graders by OPRF Principal and Activities Staff
Presentations take place at the middle schools during the school day. Dates to be determined.

For Parents/Guardians: Mandatory Incoming Freshman Enrollment Information Meetings
For last names A – L: Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 7:00 p.m., Auditorium
For last names M – Z: Thursday, January 22, 7:00 p.m., Auditorium
Families will receive students’ EXPLORE scores and freshman course recommendations, as well as enrollment documents.

February

For Parents/Guardians: Individual IEP Meetings for Students with Special Needs
Individually scheduled throughout February.

For Parents/Guardians & Students: Class of 2019 Open House & Freshman Course Selection
Tuesday, February 3

Open House: 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Field House & Student Center (enter at Main Entrance). Come check out OPRF, meet teachers, and learn about courses, activities, teams, sports and clubs.

Course Selection: 7:30 p.m. Students (with parents) meet in groups according to counselor assignment. Further details will be mailed.

Spring

Summer School Online & Mail-in Registration

May

For Students: “Get Ready for High School” J. Kyle Braid Leadership Workshops
OPRF student leaders visit the middle schools during the day to present a final workshop to eighth graders.
