03-09-12 - Morton East incident during Gospel Choir field trip
Dear OPRFHS Families:
So now we know: we will have a real winter after all.
Given the weather forecast for today and tomorrow, we anticipate no disruption to after-school events and activities or tomorrow’s schedule.
However, as a general reminder, if there is ever a change overnight in the following day’s school schedule and/or the school will be closed, before 6 a.m. the following day (earlier, if conditions warrant), we will send a Skylert call, text and email message to all Family 1/Guardian 1 emails and phones for which we have current contact information . (If you are not sure whether your Family Access information is current, please check online or contact familyaccess@oprfhs.org for help).
• Snow updates will also be available on the front of the www.oprfhs.org site in the Events/News box.
• Information about any special event cancellations/rescheduling will be available on our website, as well as through District 90 and District 97 sites.
Other ways to check our OPRFHS schedule (especially important to note in the event OPRF communications tools are down) include:
• Metropolitan radio and television will provide periodic announcements relative to closing/modified schedule. We will be identified as Oak Park and River Forest High School, Cook County,
District No. 200;
• Calling the Emergency Closing Center at 847-238-1234.
• Going online to www.EmergencyClosings.com. Use search terms Oak Park and River Forest High School,
Cook County, District 200;
• Tuning into WGN Radio 720 AM or WBBM Newsradio 780 AM.
• Watching TV channels CBS 2, NBC 5, ABC 7, WGN, Fox32 or CLTV News.
In addition, you can check our status by going to the public website of the Emergency Closing Center at http://www.emergencyclosingcenter.com/complete.html. Then, search for our school by typing in the school name and city, Oak Park and River Forest High School, Oak Park, IL, or by our main phone number – 708-383-0700.
Safe travels to all of you this evening and tomorrow morning as your students prepare for the last day of 1st semester classes and preparations for final exams.

Safety tips from our School Resource Officer
Our School Resource Officers ask that you review with your students these basic precautions as they travel to and from school and within our community. Students should:
• walk with friends, if possible
• be aware of your surroundings (e.g. look behind you often, be aware of who else is around, remove headphones)
• try not to walk close to objects or areas you cannot see around
• keep all valuables (including cell phones, iPods, etc.) out of sight
• walk in well lit areas visible from the street, avoiding shortcuts through alleys or less public/traveled areas
• be extra cautious in areas around or on the trains
• go to a well populated or lighted area immediately and call for help if you think you are being followed
• walk with confidence, awareness and with your head up
• make sure parents/guardians/other responsible adults know your whereabouts, schedule and how to reach you
