In an effort to provide a more safe and secure environment during the late arrival Monday mornings, we will begin to implement the following procedures effective Monday, October 6:
Please be advised that all entrances to the school will be locked except for the main entrance on Scoville Avenue on late arrival Mondays. ALL STUDENTS will have to enter at the main entrance on Scoville Avenue.
· Students WILL NOT be permitted into the academic areas or lockers until 8:50 a.m.
· Students will be allowed to go to the assigned areas (library, tutoring center, and testing center) until 8:30 a.m. After this time, students will not be allowed admittance to these areas. Students who go to the library, tutoring center, or testing center will be required to remain in these areas until the 8:50 bell.
· As students come into the building, they will be directed into the South Cafeteria. In the event that we near capacity in this area, students will then be directed into the North Cafeteria. Food will be sold in the South Cafeteria on late arrival Mondays beginning next week. Once the South and the North Cafeterias near capacity, students will then be allowed to convene in the Student Center.
· The 8:50 bell will release students to their lockers and academic areas.
· To aide us in this process, we are asking that teachers DO NOT accept student requests for appointments during this time. Students who need to make up test s or quizzes should be directed to the testing center.
Auditions
Auditions for the 2nd Little Theater show, Absent Friends, by Alan Ayckboourn are next Tues. and Wed. from 3:15 to 6:15 p.m. The sign up is outside of Room 347. See Mr. Lessing for details and a copy of the script. No experience necessary. (A. Lessing)
Help Stop Child Warfare
During lunch periods, stop and have your hand traced for $1.00. Stick your hand in paint and place it on a sheet of paper that will be sent to the United Nations to help stop child warfare across the world. If nearly every student and staff member does this, think about how much money we can raise! Please see Mr. Silver in Room 357 if you have any questions.
Homecoming Ticket Sales
Purchase your Homecoming tickets today for $18 each during all lunch periods.
Calling all Bands and Musicians
Huskiepalooza is coming! If you or your band is interested in performing, auditions will be held on Tues., October 7 in the band room. Sign up for an audition time in the Student Activity Center by Mon., Oct. 6.
Spring Break Ecuador Trip
If you are in a 4th or 5th year Spanish class and are interested in a trip to Ecuador, please come pick up an application and find out more on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 3:10 p.m. in Room 415. If you cannot make the meeting, please stop by Room 415 and see Ms. Oliver.
Attention all Summer Art Students
Photo students please pick up any work from the Student Center gallery show from Ms. Carrow in Room 334. All summer art foundations and wheel throwing students, who had work in the Student Center gallery or showcase, please get your work from Ms. Ebsen in Room 390 after school any day this week.
Yearbook Missed Pictures and Retakes
If you are unhappy with your ID or missed having your picture during registration you may take or retake your photo next Tuesday, October 7 from 7:30 a.m. - 4 pm in the Student Activity Center, Room 174. Seniors please note that this does NOT apply to you.
Youth Service Medal of Honor Award
If you did at least 100 hours of volunteer service last school year and summer, you’re eligible for the 21st Annual Sheriff’s Youth Service Medal of Honor Award. Applications are available at the Welcome Center, Room 105, or the Student Activities Center. Applications must be postmarked by Monday, October 6, so don’t delay!

Any dance club member who is planning to dance with us at the block party tonight, must attend our meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Adapted Gym.
I.T.S. REMINDER
Forms and deposit for IHS Theatre Festival registration are due today by 4:00 p.m. Bring Mrs. Cheney in Room 414 until 3:30 p.m. or in Room 101 after 3:30 p.m. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to attend the largest festival with workshops, shows, and All-State production of HAIRSPRAY!

Psychology Club welcomes our own psychology professionals Margo Bristow and Gwendolyn Walker-Qualls who will lead a discussion on Teen Mental Health and Drug Issues on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 3:15 p.m. in Room 368. All are welcome as always!

Don’t forget that next week are the interviews, on Mon, Wed, and Fri. If you forgot to sign up for an interview time, or forgot when your interview is, stop by Mr. Mulvaney’s room to get your time. Your applications must be turned in by your interview; it is still not too late to become a leader!!

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT/SCHOLARSHIPS/OPPORTUNITIES
Attention All Students
A state graduation requirement is completing a course in Consumer Education. Students can meet this requirement by passing the Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency Test which will be given October 8 at 3:15 p.m. in Room 302. The exam is limited to 50 students and only registered students will be permitted to take the exam. Register in person by Monday with Mrs. Rice in the third floor library.
SAT I & II
The SAT I & II is being administered at OPRFHS on October 4, 2008. Students must be at the front doors at 7:45 a.m. No one will be admitted without I.D. and admission ticket.
SPORTS CORNER
Boys’ Sophomore Basketball Players
Basketball open gym for sophomores will be on Mondays and Wednesdays on the field house court from 6-7:30 p.m. beginning Mon., Oct. 6 and ending Wed., Oct. 29. Weight training for sophomore basketball players will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the weight room from 6-7:00 pm beginning Tues., Oct. 7 and ending Thurs, Oct. 30.
