Project 1 Impact on Facilities

Click here to go to the main landing page for Project 1.

Project 1 construction, which will mainly take place over the next several summers (see timeline here), will have a variety of impacts on the facilities and operations. These include:

  • The four tennis courts on the east end will be closed. This is where construction vehicles and equipment will be housed.

    • The courts will be replaced by spring 2022.

    • The Park District of Oak Park has offered to reserve courts for our tennis teams to practice and compete.

    • Tennis will not be included in physical education classes during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.

  • The Mall will be closed to pedestrian traffic.

    • Delivery trucks will still be able to make drop-offs at the dock and Food Service.

    • The athletic fields on the west side of the campus WILL be accessible.

    • The band equipment trailers will be relocated, and the Environmental Club garden will be displaced.

  • The 1W Gym will serve as a temporary cafeteria.

    • The South Cafeteria will be unavailable beginning in June 2020 through completion in December 2021.

    • The annual used book sale sponsored by Friends of the Oak Park Public Library will need to be relocated in 2020 and 2021.

  • Summer School will be moved off site during 2021 and 2022, and possibly 2023 as well. There will not be a summer musical during these two summers, and possibly not in 2023 either.

The district is in the process of planning informational meetings for the school’s neighbors, as well as the wider community, this winter and spring. Look for details in the new year.
