Choir

Curricular Choirs

  • A Cappella: Advanced mixed choir. Members are expected to meet the performance schedule, which includes major historic and contemporary repertoire. They are also expected to explore and develop a knowledge and understanding of historical performance practices and a diverse range of musical styles in many languages and to study the cultural aspects of choral music. A Cappella will perform at four to six public concerts each year. The choir periodically accepts invitations to perform outside of the Oak Park and River Forest communities.
  • Chamber Singers: Advanced treble ensemble. Members are expected to meet the performance schedule, which includes major historic and contemporary repertoire. They are also expected to explore and develop a knowledge and understanding of historical performance practices and a diverse range of musical styles in many languages and to study the cultural aspects of choral music. Chamber Singers will perform at four to six public concerts each year. The choir periodically accepts invitations to perform outside of the Oak Park and River Forest communities.
  • Chorale: For beginning and intermediate singers interested in exploring choral music. Repertoire is selected for mixed voices (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Activities include the study of vocal technique, work on “solfege” studies, musical terminology, and diverse repertoire representing various cultures, styles, and historical periods. Four evening performances are scheduled during the year.
  • Treble Choir: For beginning and intermediate treble singers interested in exploring choral music. Repertoire is selected for treble (soprano 1 and 2, and alto 1 and 2) voices. Activities include the study of vocal technique, work on “solfege” studies, musical terminology, and diverse repertoire representing various cultures, styles, and historical periods. Four evening performances are scheduled during the year.
  • Bass Ensemble: For beginning and intermediate bass singers interested in exploring choral music. Repertoire is selected for bass (treble 1 and 2, and bass 1 and 2) voices. Activities include the study of vocal technique, work on “solfege” studies, musical terminology, and diverse repertoire representing various cultures, styles, and historical periods. Four evening performances are scheduled during the year.

Extra-Curricular Choirs

  • Vocal Jazz: OPRF boasts five vocal jazz ensembles, which perform in two concerts per year. Membership for each ensemble ranges from nine to 25 students with repertoire written for ensembles up to  eight parts. 
  • A Cappella: OPRF has five student-run a cappella ensembles, including True Colors, Six Chicks, Take Five, Orange & Blues, and No Strings.  
  • Show Choir: This highly selective group of singers, dances and live band members performs in the Oak Park and River Forest community and Chicago throughout the fall and holiday season and has a final performance in April.
