Special Education Programs

CITE is an outcome-based program focused on facilitating students' independence in their home and community through direct teaching of life skills. CITE creates a seamless transition from high school to post-school activities so that a student may successfully participate in their community as an adult. The focus is on age-appropriate skills and activities in natural settings to the greatest extent possible. The program is individualized for students based on their goals.

The CITE program focuses on the following overarching areas of functional academics: independent living, consumer skills, domestic, social/recreational, self-advocacy, adult services/connections, and vocational skills.

CITE comprises four teachers and 12 teaching assistants.  Occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, and speech and language therapy are provided through direct and consultation service and are based on the therapist evaluations and multidisciplinary team recommendation.

The CITE program also includes access to the transition and vocational education services. These services are provided to support and prepare students for life after high school and navigating the community.

The goal of the SED program is to foster student engagement and independence while also building a student’s ability to use skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

All graduation requirements, including electives, are offered through SED. Academic Strategies intertwines executive functioning skills training and support with Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Group.

The SED program comprises four teachers, two social workers, and a behavior interventionist, who work closely to support students throughout their continuum of services and individualized education program (IEP). Social work supports are integrated at 40 minutes per week of group skills.

Students transition back into the least restrictive environment (LRE) once they demonstrate the ability to consistently meet expectations in the areas of increased attendance rates, better classroom participation, improved work completion, respect for self and others, independent use, and improved resilience and perseverance.

The TEAM program is designed to prepare students with mild, moderate, and severe intellectual disabilities to live and work in their home communities. The major goal of the program is to maximize independence for successful integration into the mainstream of community life. The TEAM program supports the philosophy that the Individual Education Program (IEP) of each student dictates the range/level of service required.

Academics in TEAM provide the student with a wide range of learning opportunities. Spanning from the natural community environment to the traditional classroom setting, the program meets the unique needs of each student. The TEAM program stresses individualization in methodologies, materials, and supportive services to meet the student’s needs. The TEAM program facilitates community-based instruction to enhance functional daily living and academic skills.

Graduation requirements and core academic classes are offered through TEAM, including English, Math, History, Health, and Tech Lit. TEAM teachers also co-teach with general education teachers in the following electives: Art Foundations, Culinary Arts, Theater and Chorus. Adapted PE is offered for students in TEAM and includes general education peer leaders as well. Living Skills is a supported class offered to help our students with their executive functioning skills.
