State Testing

State Testing in 2018-19

The Illinois State Board of Education's testing requirements changed in July 2016. The following tests are now required:


Required for


SAT, including essay

All juniors

Beginning with the class of 2018, juniors will be required to take the SAT in order to earn an Illinois public high school diploma (unless there is an IEP that specifies that the appropriate assessment is the DLM-AA). 

Test Date:

April 9 (makeup testing April 24)

PSAT 8/9 & PSAT 10

All Freshman and Sophomores

Beginning in 2018-19 school year, the Illinois State Board of Education requires all freshman and sophomores  to take the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT 10 (as designated by grade) in order to ensure accountability.

Test Date:

April 9 

DLM-Alternate Assessment Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors with IEPs that specify Alternate Assessment

Testing Window:

March 13 - May 8

ACCESS for ELLs English Language Learners who have not yet attained proficient scores on a prior year's ACCESS test

Testing Window: January 16 -February 19

Illinois Science Assessment All students enrolled in a first-year biology course, regardless of grade level

Testing Window:

March 1-April 30
