Track and Fields Project
Oak Park and River Forest High School is collaborating with the Park District of Oak Park to to renovate and reconfigure most of the high school's athletic fields. Under a 25-year intergovernmental agreement (IGA) approved by the Boards of the two entities on Sept. 22, 2022, the high school will have expanded use of the Ridgeland Common field for the OPRFHS physical education and softball programs. In exchange, PDOP will have access to OPRFHS fields. The improvements to the Ridgeland Common fields are being funded by the high school and include the installation of two scoreboards, security cameras, and additional netting, as well as replacement of the current synthetic turf fields, which are at the end of their useful life. The location of the new fields is illustrated below and includes:
- A 400-meter track on the back field (between the tennis courts and stadium), with a multipurpose turf field in the center
- A new multi-sport field used by varsity baseball in the spring, on Lake Street south of the high school
- Renovated softball fields, at Ridgeland Common on Lake Street
Construction will begin May 1, 2023, and is scheduled for completion in late fall 2023. The Athletics department is making arrangements for all affected programs to maintain its practice and competition schedules with various high school partners and will share further details once each season’s rosters are set.
Details about what's included in the renovations can be found in this Nov. 17, 2022, Board packet memo.
