Summer School Driver Education being offered

We are happy to announce that we will be offering the classroom portion of Driver Education (DE) through e-Learning this summer.  The class will run from June 8 until July 10, Monday through Friday.  The course will consist of 1½ hours of online instruction and online assignments each school day.  The class will meet virtually at least twice a week from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.   Students will be provided the opportunity during the classroom portion to obtain a driving permit.  The fee for the classroom portion will be $100.  The DE class will be open to grades 10-12 and the student must be 15 years of age by the first day of class.  Priority will be given to residents of Oak Park and River Forest.

Driver Education consists of two phases: classroom instruction and behind the wheel (BTW).  In order for a teen to obtain a driver’s license in Illinois, they must complete both phases of a Driver Education program, obtain a permit, and complete 50 hours of practice driving at home.

The BTW portion will take place once the school is able to resume in-person teaching practices.  While we cannot say at this time when this will take place, we will complete the BTW training when safe and allowed by state authorities.  The fee for the BTW portion will be an additional $100 which will be collected separately.

If you would like to be considered for the 2020 Summer School E-Learning DE Classroom course, please complete this application.

Sincerely,
