Message from the superintendent regarding fall semester

Dear Staff, Families, and Students,

I hope that you and your families are healthy and safe. Here at the district, we have been busy, with committees comprising several dozen teachers, staff members, and administrators working on potential plans for next year.

As I shared with you at the end of May, we were working toward drafting plans with different scenarios for a safe and equitable return to school in the fall. Thank you to the hundreds of teachers, students, and staff who responded to our surveys about your experiences with teaching and learning this past spring. Your input has been really valuable.

Our goal was to present draft plans to the Board of Education at its meeting on June 25. Following initial input from the Board, we intend to gather focus group feedback from teachers, students, and parents on the draft plans.

We have been informed this week, however, that the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will be announcing guidance for school districts by the end of this month.

To make sure that our plan for the fall aligns with the guidance that the State puts out, we are postponing our presentation to the Board. We will let you know when the State has announced its guidelines, as well as the new date for us to present a draft plan to the Board. We will still provide an opportunity for stakeholders to give feedback on the draft.

I know the uncertainty about this fall is frustrating and unsettling. We will do our best to give you more clarity and information just as soon as we can. In the meantime, please take care and be well.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joylynn Pruitt-Adams

Superintendent
