Update regarding honors credit/weighting

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Oak Park and River Forest High School has redefined which letter grades will receive honors credit/weighting. Weighted grades benefit students in most cases, encouraging students to take more challenging classes, prioritizing academic rigor over grade acquisition, and supporting the Strategic Plan goals to ensure all students achieve high levels of academic and social success.

To that end, beginning this school year, students in any honors course earning an A, B, or C will receive the honors level points. This change is not retroactive, meaning it will apply only to grades earned this year, not previous years.

Additionally, as indicated in the Academic Catalog, while there is no limit to the number of honors courses a student may take, there is a limit to the number of honors-level points a student may earn per semester. Students may earn honors-level points for up to three courses per semester.
